There’s a reason why rice is so popular worldwide. 1) It’s cheap. 2) It’s incredibly easy to prepare. 3) It also has a solid nutritional profile. Rice carries 15 vitamins and minerals including iron, zinc, folate and other B vitamins.
Alas, the popular grain has a weakness: It doesn’t carry as much protein as many other foods. So, we came up with a recipe that not only is cost-effective and easy to prepare but also carries the nutritional benefits of rice with added protein. Listed below are steps outlining how to make whey protein rice pudding.
· 1 cup of rice
· Approximately 60 grams of unflavored whey protein isolate
· 5 tbsp of water (or milk)
· Fruit of your choice (some recommended options are: apples, bananas and golden raisins)
Step 1) Cook the rice. The total amount of rice you need depends on how creamy you want your rice pudding.
Step 2) Add 3-5 tablespoons of water or milk to a large bowl to start.
Step 3) Add the whey protein isolate, one scoop at a time and allow the whey protein to settle into the liquid. You want the protein pudding to be a little sludge-like. It should ooze off of the spoon, but it shouldn’t run off. If needed, slowly add more water or milk until you get the right consistency.
Step 4) Mix in your spices of choice. A teaspoon of cinnamon and nutmeg works great, but you can use whatever.
Step 5) Once your spices are mixed in, add the rice. Add it slowly for easier mixing. Stop adding the rice whenever you reach a consistency you like.
Step 6) Add your fruit.
Step 7) Consume!
